- Do NOT get married. Said spouse may have a tendency to need certain things after the sun has gone down, which inevitably can postpone your bedtime.
- Do NOT reproduce. No matter how cute and irresistable they may be, try your damndest to resist. Children + basic human needs + irresistability = no sleep for you.
- Do NOT teach. Though it is a profession of great reward, it is one of great sacrifice as well, the greatest of these being sleep (the close second in financial gain).
- Do NOT further your education. This is highly esteemed in some social and professional circles, but for your own mental state, don't even contemplate the idea. Work, work, and more work means less, less, and less sleep for you.
- Do NOT live independently. Stay with your parents as long as you can. Never move out. That way there is always someone else to do your laundry, someone else to clean your room, someone else to cook you dinner. This is a staple of any good sleep regimen.
There you have it the basic rules for securing your 8+ hours of REM sleep each night which have somehow escaped me for the past.... nine? years and for certain the past 4 weeks. Good luck. I hope you are more successful than I. It's currently 11:52. I think I can make it.
